Leupold Serial Numbers Date Manufactured

Re: Remington 700 with Leupold scope. To be honest I’m not sure. The serial number is 180661d it that helps in any way. It will say in the gold ring which model it is. I’ll pull the scope cover off tonight and see. Thanks for letting me know. VX1 and VXR come in 3-9x50 as well, email Leupold with the serial number, they usually get back to you in a couple of days and will tell you which scope you have and what the warranty is. NIGHTFORCE SERIAL NUMBER??? Discussion in 'Long Range Scopes and Other Optics' started by Dennis_in_VA, Feb 14, 2007. I got a Leupold scope last month directly from the Leupold factory, by way of a relative that works there. I have purchased other Leupold scopes only after calling them to verify the serial number. Caveat emptor.

I read some reviews on the Leupold Mark 6 scope where the authors commented on the reticle illumination not being bright enough for daylight. Based on Leupold's FAQ, the manufacture year is represented by the last character in the serial number sequence, which is a letter:
W = 2012
X = 2013
Y = 2014
My scope ends with a 'Y' and the illuminated reticle is sufficiently daylight bright at level 6 under a midday Texas sun. From your experience, does the illum vary from scope to scope regardless of when it was made or did Leupold improve it?

Hi I have a Loupold 3-9-50 scope which apears new and came with a rifel but I dont know the moddle number? The serial number is 285309V Is there any way I can find out? Looking on the site the only 3-9 50 is the VX2 and it looks the same but lacks the little gold badge. It just has a code.

Leupold Counterfeit Warning
Link below:
Leupold® is issuing a customer alert to purchasers of products, particularly via Internet sales, in regards to bogus Leupold products that are apparently being illegally imported from the People’s Republic of China. These products bear many of the marks and trade dress of current Leupold & Stevens riflescopes making them very hard to distinguish externally from authentic Leupold products.
Counterfeited Leupold Mark 4® riflescopes and more recently, counterfeited Leupold Prismatic riflescopes have begun to arrive with increasing regularity at the firm’s Beaverton, Oregon, headquarters for service. These products are not manufactured by Leupold and are not covered by the Leupold Full Lifetime Guarantee.
Leupold employs serial number tracking for all its riflescopes, so if a customer finds a scope that is suspect, he or she can simply write down the serial number and call 1-800-LEUPOLD to confirm if it is indeed authentic.
Counterfeited Leupold Mark 4® riflescopes:
In general, most of the scopes appear to originate from Hong Kong (People’s Republic of China), and have “Leupold Mark 4” laser engraved on the bottom of the turret in a silver etch, while the black ring on the objective is etched in white and does not include the name “Leupold”. The scopes also do not bear the Leupold medallion, a mark all Leupold scopes will always possess. An authentic Mark 4 riflescope will always be engraved black on black and have the name “Leupold” engraved on the black ring.
Identifying Marks:
Counterfeited Leupold Prismatic riflescopes:
The absence of a serial number and barcode on the bottom of the scope is the easiest way to identify these counterfeits. A brass ring may be visible when looking into the objective and screws can be seen on the top of the finger click adjustments under the caps. The product name is not engraved on the black ring.

Guys,
I just got back from a trip to China where I visited the underground copy market. I found several vendors selling rifle scopes, red dots, reflex and laser sights. But, the only names I saw on them was Bushnell and BSA. However, when you look at them, you can tell they are not right. One had an illuminated red/green range finder recticle. Bushnell does not sell anything with a range finder recticle. Didn't see any Leupolds. But, it wouldn't be hard for them to copy. When I go back (probably in a month or two), I will definitely look for these.
What's weird is guns are not available in China. LEO don't even have a side arm.

I buy a lot of things on ebay and can usually tell if something is bogus. The listing sometimes just doesn't sound right.

Boy that would be real easy to dupe someone if the price didn't give it away. (Ie. no one would sell a Leupold for less than half its retail price). But, if they charged just about what the real product is going for, who's to know. I've bought products from companies that I'd never heard of before, just because there are so many on line and as long as it has the right words in its description, it will come up in the same search for legitimate products. I guess the deal would be to only buy from a known source like Midway, Brownells, etc. You won't find much cheaper in price anyway. Smithy.

Leoupolds & Zeiss have been counterfitted before and they will continue to be because of the demand for quality optics. Pretty much everything that's quality made will be counterfitted by lowlife's like these. I had posted a warning on a motorcycle forum about Jet kit's for carburators made by Dynojet that were being counterfitted and sold on......you guessed it, E-Bay!

Thanks for the warning.
This is nothing new. It's been on Leupold's site for several years now. I don't remember what Leupold's were being counterfeited maybe this Mark4 is a new addition . I always buy from a reliable source and avoid Ebay for this reason alone. Once again thanks for the heads up.

What will China think of next? I saw the warning at a local gun shop and I was quite surprised. It's good to see the word is getting out.

I don't know if it was hereor on another forum, but I remember an ebay retailer who described the scam as such:
Vendor would sell legitimate high end scopes, and buyer would complain that the scope is defective and send back a counterfeited copy of the scope in the same box that the original scope was shipped in.
Being that Ebay heavily favors the buyers in transaction complaints, the seller gets left holding the bag with a worthless scope.

I am currently considering getting a Leupold or Weaver scope for my 10/22 and was considering buying from Scopes N More...
Rifle Scopes, Red Dot Sights, Binoculars and Spotting Scopes
Has anyone else bought from them...it appears that they are a legitimate authorized dealer...however, that does not mean they don't get scopes thru a distributor...
What do you guys think are the chances of getting a fake from a place like that online is...???
And don't get me wrong...I love midwayusa.. but they always have 'blemished' Leupold scopes and lots of them for a discount...seems like a lot of people say they couldn't find a blemish...makes you wonder...not that I wonder about Larry...lol...I wonder if all these outlets could be getting scammed by greedy distributors...
If they all buy direct from the factory then it would seem the only way anyone could get burned is from 'used' or ebay type stuff...
We need to Trump the prc with some tuff-love...lol...
